Industrial Mechanic

Salary Range: $22.00 - $30.56/hr

Position Summary

The Industrial Plant Mechanic is responsible for troubleshooting, maintaining, and repairing mechanical equipment within pumping plants, hydroelectric powerplants, and related project facilities. This position performs routine, preventative, and emergency maintenance using industry-standard tools, testing equipment, and welding or rigging techniques. The Mechanic may also operate pumping units in the event of supervisory control system outages or emergencies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install, test, repair, and maintain mechanical systems including pumps, motors, hydraulic piping, HVAC systems, cranes, valves, and delivery equipment
  • Interpret and work from mechanical and hydraulic schematics, blueprints, and manufacturer specifications
  • Perform welding, pipefitting, painting, and rigging; operate cranes and hoists as required
  • Maintain maintenance records and collect daily plant performance data
  • Operate pumping and power units in accordance with standard operating procedures during emergencies or control center outages
  • Inspect mechanical and electrical systems during facility construction or upgrades
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

  • Five years of journeyman-level experience in a heavy industrial, manufacturing, pumping, or power generation facility; or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
  • Working knowledge of mechanical and hydraulic systems, plant operations, and industrial safety procedures including lock-out/tag-out
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical documentation
  • Proficiency in the use of mechanical and hydraulic testing equipment
  • Experience with welding, pipefitting, and operation of overhead cranes
  • Valid Colorado driver’s license with a good driving record
  • Availability for overtime and on-call assignments, including nights, weekends, and holidays

Working Conditions

Work is performed in industrial environments and may involve exposure to hazardous materials, confined spaces, moving machinery, and extreme weather conditions. The position requires moderate physical labor, including lifting up to 50 pounds, climbing, bending, and working with personal protective equipment, including respirators.
