Mobile Equipment Fleet Mechanic
Salary: $22.00-$30.56/hour
Position Summary
The Mobile Equipment Fleet Mechanic is responsible for the maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of gasoline- and diesel-powered heavy equipment and service vehicles. This position performs preventative maintenance, diagnoses mechanical issues, completes field and shop repairs, and maintains fleet performance to ensure safe and reliable operation of District equipment.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain and repair heavy mobile equipment including trucks, loaders, backhoes, tractors (wheeled and crawler), service vehicles, and 4-wheel drive pickups
- Diagnose mechanical malfunctions and repair or replace components in engines, transmissions, driveline systems, and hydraulic systems
- Perform field repairs as required
- Establish and maintain preventative maintenance programs
- Maintain inventory of equipment, tools, parts, and operating supplies
- Initiate parts requests and coordinate external repair services when needed
- Track equipment usage and maintenance costs
- Operate heavy equipment as necessary to support maintenance activities
- Perform other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
- Five years of training and/or experience in the maintenance and repair of heavy mobile equipment demonstrating master mechanic-level competency; or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
- Experience implementing preventative maintenance programs
- Ability to operate a variety of heavy equipment
- Valid Colorado driver’s license with a good driving record (CDL preferred)
Working Conditions
Work is performed in shop and field environments and may involve exposure to hazardous materials, moving machinery, confined spaces, and extreme weather conditions. The position requires moderate physical labor, including lifting up to 50 pounds and performing tasks such as climbing, bending, crouching, and carrying while using appropriate personal protective equipment including respirators.
