Field Maintenance Technician

Salary Range: $22.00 - $30.56/hr

Position Summary

The Field Maintenance Technician is responsible for operating, maintaining, and repairing the District's pressurized irrigation water distribution system and related infrastructure. This position performs preventative and corrective maintenance, responds to service requests, assists water users with deliveries, and supports the safe and reliable operation of the District's water conveyance system.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain the District's pressurized irrigation distribution system, including delivery valves, flowmeters, pressure-reducing devices, and related infrastructure
  • Perform preventative maintenance and repairs to ensure reliable water delivery
  • Record water deliveries, read flowmeters, and maintain accurate operational records
  • Coordinate with water users regarding water deliveries, maintenance activities, and irrigation allocations
  • Respond to 811 One-Call locate requests and mark underground District utilities; submit locate requests for District excavation projects
  • Perform general maintenance of District facilities, including carpentry, concrete work, plumbing, painting, sandblasting, pipe installation and repair, fencing, weed control, excavation, and custodial tasks
  • Operate and perform routine inspections of trucks, skid steers, backhoes, front-end loaders, and other equipment
  • Assist skilled trades personnel with maintenance and construction projects
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

  • Two years of experience in maintenance, repair, or construction of water delivery systems or similar infrastructure; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
  • Experience operating and maintaining pressurized irrigation systems, valves, and gravity-flow canals preferred
  • Ability to work effectively with irrigators and the public to coordinate water deliveries
  • Ability to read and interpret manuals, technical drawings, and operating instructions
  • Basic computer and data collection skills
  • Valid Colorado driver's license with a good driving record

Working Conditions

Work is performed primarily outdoors in a variety of weather conditions and terrain. The position requires operation of power tools, heavy equipment, and motor vehicles, and may involve work in confined spaces and around potentially hazardous environments while using appropriate personal protective equipment. Regular lifting of up to 50 pounds and frequent bending, climbing, kneeling, shoveling, and other physical activities are required.
